Even the earliest peasants must have known how much land they were cultivating and what kind of harvest they could expect. But while today the farmer in the tractor cab watches a digital display, in the past the measure was subjective. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Culture- or region-dependent units were used for measurement, but this was no longer sufficient with the rise of world trade. For the farmer, it was a practical aid in the home production of sacks or baskets for crops.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>Royal Elbow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was longer and represented the state norm. It was used in the construction of buildings and monuments in Egypt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Roman footprint<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was divided into 12-16 fingers, with<\/span><b> Roman mile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had 1000 steps. Thanks to this unit, the farmer knew exactly how far he had to travel to get to the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Yard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was divided into smaller parts and its origin was probably related to the elbow or measure of the king. It was a real grain of wheat or barley, which, because of its constant weight, was an ideal measure for precious goods - gold, silver. From this unit, larger measures gradually evolved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pound<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - a small unit of weight, about 0.3-0.5 kg. The farmer used it to measure the grain, cheese or eggs he sold at the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Shekel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - small weight of silver about 11-14 g, it was also used as payment. The farmer used it to pay rent, taxes or to buy seeds and tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Talent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - large unit, about 30-40 kg. The farmer weighed, for example, sheep or small sacks of grain and knew how many \u201estones\u201c to load on the wagon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Quarter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - 4 stones, about 25 kg. Thanks to this, the farmer knew that he could carry the load with the help of a cart or a few people.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>One Hundred<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - 100 pounds, approximately 45 kg. The farmer knew that one such package represented the cargo carried by a wagon or ship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Tona<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - about 1 016 kg, i.e. about 40 quarters. The farmer knew that an arpent was an area that could be worked by a couple of oxen in a day. V <\/span><b>Canada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (especially in Qu\u00e9bec) the <\/span><b>arpent <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">used until the 20th century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">V<\/span><b> Germany and Austria-Hungary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (including Slovakia) dominated <\/span><b>morga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. One <\/span><b>morga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had around 0.25-0.36 hectares. It was <\/span><b>\u201ein the morning.\u201c <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">- the area that a pair of horses or oxen could plough in one morning's work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At <\/span><b>Slovakia and the Czech Republic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was also used<\/span><b> lan <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or<\/span><b> rope<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - a large unit of about 18-24 hectares, often associated with serf farms.
